Ask.com buys reference sites

Friday, May 16th, 2008

It looks like Ask.com is trying compete with the bigger players by providing a more specialised search. This will be made possible by integrating its latest acquisitions; Thesaurus.com, Reference.com and Dictionary.com.

As it stands, Ask.com makes up only 5% of the market share according to Comscore with only 22 million hits a month placing it in 5th spot.

Linux embedded motherboards from ASUS

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

ASUS has begun embedding a Linux operating system on selected motherboards. They are using a basic distro called Splashtop that will offer Firefox and Skype support. The cool thing is you won’t need a hard drive to boot your PC and it is near instant to switch on.

As far as embedded software goes it may just be up there Alex the Kid on the Master System!

Visit Splashtop to view a demo and see what motherboards are supported.

Guess the Google game

This is a guessing game by Grant Robinson based on his project, Montage-a-google. You are given a montage of pictures and have to guess what keyword they have in common.

Start guessing NOW.

Also have a look at his original project mentioned above which creates a large montage of google images based on your keyword.

Crayon Physics

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

This is a small game project I have been watching for a little while now.

The aim of the game is quite simple, you get the ball from the start to the finish… the feature that makes this stand out is you draw the objects you need to move the ball!

Instead of me trying to explain it is easier for you to have a look at a preview via the developers blog - HERE.

His original (screenshot shown below) and simpler version, a game made in 7 days, is available to download HERE. But still worth downloading to get an idea of what he is trying to do.

Also posted on the Forum.

New look Llama

Friday, May 9th, 2008

New Cyberllama logoPreviously it was rather annoying having the domain point to the forums and the blog linked from that.

So you will now notice Cyberllama.net has three images pointing to the ‘forums’, ‘blog’ and an all new ‘design’.
This is to make the choice much easier to new and regular users alike.

The introduction of the ‘design’ page will allow me to share my web design projects separately.

It also features a new look Cyberllama logo (seen on right) which I made for the page. Not sure if it will replace the old logo though.
